A Trio Of Wildflower Wishes

Hello there, Michelle Short here and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog using the Wildflowers collection by Lisa Horton. This wonderful collection features wildflowers, some fabulous background elements and fantastic sentiments. Everything works well together, but you can use elements separately too!

BIRTHDAY WISHES

My first card uses the Layered Gladiolus Etched Dies for my focal point, combined with one of the sentiment sets, plus the Script Text BetterPress Plate for a subtle background. To make this card:

• Die cut the Layered Gladiolus Etched Dies from ColorWheel Cardstock – Orchid and Mulberry for the petals, Beeswax for the flower centres, and Peridot and Rainforest for the stem and leaves.
• Assemble and adhere flowers using liquid glue and adhere to stem.
• Deboss Script Text BetterPress Plate onto panel of white cardstock using the BetterPress Letterpress System:

1. Place Script Text BetterPress Plate onto Chase.
2. Place 4.25” x 5.5” panel of Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock onto Platen, holding in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
3. Place Platen on top of platform and run through Platinum SIX.
4. Remove cardstock from Platen.

TIP: Make sure to have all three shims underneath the Chase for this technique. You may also need an extra shim depending on the pressure of your machine. Since I am using “normal” cardstock, the impression is very subtle. If you wanted a better impression, use BetterPress Card Panels instead.

• Die cut panel using largest oval from Scallop and Stitched Edge Ovals Etched Dies.
• Adhere to A2 sized (4.25” x 5.5”) card base using thin foam tape.
• Adhere gladiolus stem (with flowers) on top using liquid glue. Cut off excess overhanging bottom of card with scissors.
• Adhere leaves using liquid glue.

• Stamp sentiment stamp from Very Best Wishes Sentiments Clear Stamp & Die Set onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock using Versamark Ink.
• Apply White Detail Embossing Powder and heat set.
• Die cut out using coordinating die.
• Adhere ‘birthday wishes’ sentiment to card using thin foam tape.
• To finish, embellish with Berry Color Essentials Gems.

BEST WISHES

For my next card, I wanted to create a shaped card using the Scallop and Stitched Edge Ovals Etched Dies, along with Layered Wildflowers Etched Dies. There are a few ways you can create shaped card bases; the hinge method is my preferred way. To make this card:

• Die cut the poppies from Layered Wildflowers Etched Dies from ColorWheel Cardstock – Poppy and Pomegranate for the petals, Raven and Anchor for the centres, and Rainforest for the stems and leaves.
• Assemble and adhere flowers using liquid glue. Set stems and leaves aside for now.

• Die cut largest oval from Scallop and Stitched Edge Ovals Etched Dies from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Adhere stems and leaves using liquid glue.
• Cut excess of bottom of panel using scissors.
• Create card base:

1. Die cut scallop die from Scallop and Stitched Edge Ovals Etched Dies from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock
2. On one of the panels, score a line about 0.5” from the top using a score board and bone folder to create a hinge.
3. Add adhesive to the hinge and adhere to the back of the other panel.

TIP: If your shaped card isn’t standing up well, cut a little off the back panel at the bottom to have a straight line. This will help it stand up nicely.

• Adhere oval (with stems on) onto card base using thin foam tape.
• Adhere poppy heads onto card using thin foam tape.
• Stamp and heat emboss stamp set from Sending Smiles Sentiments Clear Stamp & Die Set onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock. Die cut out partial sentiment reading ‘best wishes’.
• Adhere to card using thin foam tape.
• To finish, embellish with Opal Color Essentials Gems.

WARM WISHES

For my last card, I’m using the Butterfly Silhouettes Registration Press Plate & Die Set. These butterflies have two layers that you can press (or foil) – one being the base of the butterfly, and the other, the detail layer. I decided to press the detail layer onto coloured cardstock, but if you wanted a white outline, you could use the registration method. To make the card:

• Press butterfly onto cardstock using the BetterPress Letterpress System:

1. Plate butterfly from Butterfly Silhouettes Registration Press Plate & Die Set onto Chase.
2. Place piece of Violet ColorWheel Cardstock onto the Platen, holding in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
3. Ink plate using Mulberry BetterPress Ink.
4. Place Platen onto platform and run through Platinum SIX.
5. Remove cardstock from Platen.

• Die cut butterfly using coordinating die.

TIP: Since I was again pressing onto “normal” cardstock, I made sure to have all three shims under the Chase. Experiment with what pressure works best for your machines.

• Deboss Script Text BetterPress Plate onto panel of Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock using the same method as the first card.
• Adhere to A2 sized (4.25” x 5.5”) card base.
• Adhere butterfly on top with thin foam tape.

• Die cut ‘wishes’ word from Very Best Wishes Sentiments Clear Stamp & Die Set twice from Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Die cut ‘wishes’ outline from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock and adhere wishes words on top.
• Adhere to card using thin foam tape.
• Adhere ‘warm’ (leftover from the first card), above with more thin foam tape.
• To finish, embellish with Orchid Color Essentials Gems.
