Clean & Simple Pastel Floral Cards

Hello crafty friends! It’s Lisa Tilson here with you today on the Spellbinders blog. I’m excited to be here to share three ways to use Lisa Horton’s new Wildflowers Collection with you. This is such a pretty collection that includes a couple of BetterPress Plates, a BetterPress Registration Press Plate Set, a couple of floral etched die sets and a set of nesting ovals which feature stitching and scallops. There are also two clear stamp/die sets which have everyday sentiments to suit many occasions. So, let’s get started with my three cards for today. I love to play around with colour combinations and for a bold color-loving girl…. this was a surprise find for me! I have used peach/coral/aqua tones today.

HELLO LOVELY

This card uses the Butterfly Silhouettes Registration Press Plate and Die Set along with the Splatters BetterPress Plate. I paired them with a floral set that has become one of my favourites over the past few months.

1. Start off by taking a panel of Porcelain A2 Cardstock and taping it to your platen (clear plate) using Best Ever Craft Tape.
2. Take the smaller splatter plate from Splatters BetterPress Plate and place it towards the top right side of your magnetic platform.
3. Ink it up with Apricot BetterPress Ink and press it.
4. Move the plate to the left side, just slightly lower down than half way, re-ink it and press it.

5. Take the outline press plate for the side view butterfly from Butterfly Silhouettes Registration Press Plate and Die Set and place it onto your BetterPress Letterpress magnetic platform.

Note: There is a solid plate you can use as well, but I wanted to keep my butterfly as light and airy as possible!

6. Tape some Porcelain Cardstock to your platen.
7. Create an ombre on the butterfly plate using Teal Topaz and Spruce BetterPress Inks and then press the plate.

Tip: To help create the ombre effect, you could use a blending sponge or brush and gently blur the overlapping section. I tend to just carefully dab each colour of ink softly with the ink pad and reduce the lines that way.

8. Cut out the butterfly with the coordinating die.

9. Using Bellini, Chiffon, Coral and white card, die cut flowers and leaves from Vivid Blooms Etched Dies.
10. Adhere them together where needed using Bearly Art Glue.
11. Create an arrangement that will sit behind your butterfly and adhere the die-cut pieces down using wet adhesive.
12. Pop your butterfly on top using foam tape.
13. Foil a sentiment from Making Me Smile Sentiments Hot Foil Plate and Die Set using White Foil and Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.
14. Cut it out with the coordinating die set and adhere using foam tape.
15. Finish by adding some Aquamarine Color Essential Gems for embellishment.
16. Adhere your panel to a top folding white A2 notecard.

This ended up being quite a different style of card for me; it almost felt like a mini scrapbook layout when I finished. I’m not sure why it had that feel but it did! It may be because there were quite a few layers and the splatter definitely helped create a more loosey goosey feel.

MADE WITH LOVE

For my second card, I used the Layered Gladiolus Etched Dies and the Script Text BetterPress Plate. This is such a pretty floral die set and I just love the script text plate. It makes for beautiful subtle backgrounds. I’m sure I’m going to be using this plate a lot!

1. Start by foiling the Script Text BetterPress Plate onto some Seaside ColorWheel Cardstock using the Glimmer Hot Foil System and some White Foil.
2. Trim the panel down to A2 size using a paper trimmer and adhere it to a top-folding white A2 note card.
3. Take the Layered Gladiolus Etched Dies and die cut the flowers, leaves, and stem from white card, along with Fog, Coral, Chiffon, and Bellini ColorWheel Cardstock.
4. Glue the different pieces together using Bearly Art Glue. I left the leaves at the bottom off for now.

5. Take an A2 white cardstock panel and die-cut it using an Essential Arches Etched Die.
6. Place another panel of white card underneath your die-cut piece and line up a smaller arch die in the aperture.
7. Tape the smaller arch in place and then run it through your Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine. You now have two perfectly aligned arches.
8. Adhere the smallest arch panel onto your script background and then add the larger arch panel on top using foam tape.

Tip: I left a small area free of foam tape along the bottom edge of the raised arch so that I could insert the bottom of my gladiolus and then add my leaves.

9. Adhere the gladiolus in place and then glue your leaves on top.
10. Finish by foiling a sentiment from Mini Everyday Sentiments Hot Foil Plate and Die Set onto white card using Opaque Black Foil.
11. Cut out with the coordinating die and adhere using foam tape.

Birthday Hugs

For my last card, I used the Layered Wildflowers Etched Dies as well as the Scallop and Stitched Edge Ovals Etched Dies. I also used a sentiment from Sending Smiles Sentiments Clear Stamp and Die Set.

1. Start off by die cutting the Layered Wildflowers from white card along with Coral, Bellini, Chiffon, Beeswax, Seaside, and Waterfall ColorWheel Cardstock.
2. Die cut a couple of additional white stems to fill out your floral spray from Sealed Leaf Sprigs Etched Dies.
3. Glue the flower layers together using Bearly Art Glue.

Tip: I didn’t have a shade of yellow card for the small layer white sits on the flower centre, so I die cut it from white card and used a Y15 Copic marker to colour it.

4. Take the Scallop and Stitched Edge Ovals Etched Dies and die cut the bow from Seaside and the scallop panel from white.

5. Create an A2 top folding note card from heavyweight white card and adhere an A2 panel of Fog ColorWheel Cardstock on top.
6. Pop your scalloped panel on top using foam tape.
7. Adhere your wildflowers and bow in place using wet adhesive.
8. Stamp the sentiments from Sending Smiles Sentiments Clear Stamp and Die Set onto white card using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink.
9. Apply clear embossing powder on top and heat set them before cutting them out with the coordinating die.

10. I cut my Birthday Hugs sentiment apart and added it onto my panel using some foam tape. You could add it all in one piece and have it straddle the stem out towards the edge of the scallop panel if you want though.
11. Finish by adding some Aquamarine Color Essential Gems around the card and on the middle of the bow.
