Hello crafty friends! My name is Suzanna Lee. I am absolutely thrilled to be a guest on the Spellbinders blog again and today I am sharing a couple of layouts that feature the Rosie's Studio – Golden Afternoon collection along with the coordinating Dies and Press Plates.
For this layout, I used one of the darker 12x12 patterned papers to frame the layout as I needed the dark contrast of the paper to minimize the stark contrast with the lighter papers and product in the collection and my dark main photo. We were dining inside in a dark alcove and there was just no “improving” the photo. Not even balck and white!
It’s a subtle addition to the layout but I incorporated two torn strips of the vellum at the top and the bottom of the layout. We were at a seafood restaurant and thought the circles represented the underwater bubbles of the ocean. They also added a softer touch to the horizontal lines that dominate the layout.
Accompanying this collection are the Cherish This BetterPress Plate & Die Set. This is used twice on this page to insert some fun subtitles as well as continue with the horizontal alignment of the elements. Layering of embellishments is something that I like to do and with the many options in the Embellishment Bundle, easy to do.
My Life In Pictures Etched Dies are the dies that available as a part of this collection. I’m not great at getting food snaps, even less so when the lighting is a harsh spotlight in a dark setting. But I thought these filmstrips were a great way to still be able to share some of the photos. I love the there is even a die that cuts the perfect frame around the photo to fit into the strip!
For this layout, I went the other direction, vertical! LOL! This long, skinny photo of my daughter in one of the stairwells at Sagrada Familia was well suited for turning the film strips the other direction and using them as embellishments.
Multiple floral clusters cascade down the page and you have multiple options for those clusters. The Chipboard Elements, Butterfly Embellishments, Diecut Cardstock Stickers, Diecut Floral Stickers, Puffy Stickers, and the Sticker Book (all found in the Embellishment Pack) have flowers and or foliage suitable for creating floral clusters. Additionally, Layered Anemone die here as it complimented the flowers available and enabled me to have the curled petals and extra dimension I like in my creations.
There is a great mix of realistic and more graphic looking elements available through out the collection. I thought it was an interesting look, mixing them. There is plenty of bling available for some added sparkle with the gold foiled embellishments. I used some of the Aura Opalescent Color Essential Sequins scattered through out the layout for additional sparkle.
As with most of my projects, there is a trio of clusters that create a visual triangle guiding your eye around the paper. This third cluster, with the film strip cut from the smaller patterned paper of the 6x6 paper pad as the constant element, is at the bottom/right corner of the page. It features one of the butterflies from the Butterfly Embellishments. These gorgeous things add both sparkle and dimension to your creations! It’s difficult to tell from the photo but I have a mix of die cut, chipboard and another die cut popped up on foam here, lots of texture and dimension!
