Welcome to day 3 of our 12 Days of Stitchmas 2025 Advent Calendar class! Join us and stitch your way through the season! We invited 12 guest artists to share inspiration with the 12 stitching surprises. Let’s welcome Rebecca Keppel as she shares inspiration with the Day 3 surprise!
For my first card, I cut the tree out of Spellbinders
Peridot
Cardstock. I cut one base with no stitching holes, and then two layers of the stitching details. I adhered the two stitching layers together so they would be more sturdy and they wouldn’t bend or get misshapen while I was stitching. Once the adhesive was dry, I started stitching with gold thread. I like to tape down the thread on the back so I don’t need to hold it the whole time. The stitching holes are cut by the die. The die also embosses lines showing you which holes connect together by long, straight stitches. Since the stitches are so long, they do not take much time to complete. Once the stitching is done, I tape the tail to the back and cut off the excess thread. Then add liquid adhesive to the back and adhere it to the die-cut tree without stitching holes. I die-cut the scallop out of gold metallic cardstock. The star is a layering die, so I cut one layer from the gold metallic and one from gold glitter cardstock. I cut the banners from
Tutu
Cardstock and adhered them with liquid adhesive. I created a background with the
Snowflake Shimmer
Betterpress plate in the
Glimmer
machine with gold foil, which I trimmed down to 4x5.25 and popped it up onto an A2 piece of white cardstock. I used foam squares to pop up the tree and
Spectrum AB Essential Gems
on the stitching holes and some of the places where the thread crosses over itself.
For my second card, I used a frosty wintery color combination. The tree is
Tutu
cardstock stitched with white thread. The star and scallop are cut from different cardstocks from the
Antique White Treasured Cardstock
pack, and the banners were cut from gold metallic cardstock. I added pearls as an accent this time. The background is the same press plate, but this time I foiled it with
White Foil
on
Waterfall
Cardstock.
Of course, this die set would look amazing with traditional cardstock colors, but I hope you now have some inspiration to think outside the box for holiday color combinations!
