Two Wreath-Style Layout Designs With Simple Stories Simple Vintage Love Story Collection

Hello everyone! My name is Allison Davis and I am a scrapbooker and sketch artist for my family’s scrapbook store located in Springfield, MO and also the sketch artist for Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine. I am so grateful and excited to be a guest on the Spellbinders blog today sharing two layouts I created using the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Love Story collection.

I don’t know about you, but to me, wreath designs are a classic concept that I love to use over and over. There are so many unique ways you can create and customize a wreath design whether it’s the shape of the wreath as a whole or the shape of the elements used to create the wreath.

For my first layout, I used the Spellbinders Essential Hearts cutting die to cut out lots of hearts in a variety of patterned papers. This Love Story collection is so beautiful, with so many pretty patterned papers so I tried to use a large selection of them to really show off the beauty of this collection.

I used the hearts to create a circle wreath, layering and overlapping them as much as I could. I first used the hearts cut with the Essential Hearts  cutting die as the base for this wreath. Since there is so much overlapping, I added a hand-stitched border on each of these base hearts to really help each one stand out. Plus, I love the look of stitching with this Simple Vintage collection .

After I had that base wreath design laid out I started adding lots of small details to fill it out. I use small punched hearts, die-cut hearts, word/phrase stickers, and some of the Spellbinders jewels.

For my second layout, I took a slightly different approach to a wreath design and started things off with a large heart as the center.

I covered that heart with torn patterned paper strips and arranged them on top of a large cardstock heart base. To add even more texture and dimension and to really define the edge of the heart I added a chain link stitch along the edge. Then I adhered the heart with foam adhesive to the center of the layout.

There is a great package of Simple Stories die-cut flowers that have so many beautiful floral pieces. I used those to create a wreath around the heart in the center.

To fill out the wreath design and add lots of detail, I adhered lots of butterflies, hearts, and jewels.
