August My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #1 + Giveaway

Hello! Today we are excited to kick off the countdown to the release of the August My Monthly Hero Kit! Release day is Monday, August 5th at 1pm Eastern/10 am Pacific. We will be here all weekend, sharing inspiration before the launch. Now let's join Jess for the first look at this fabulous kit!

I can honestly say that when I saw the August kit I let out a little squeal in my craft room! I am 100% nerd and love all things magical and fantastical...and this kit is TOTALLY up my alley! Today I'm sharing a slimline card with a whimsical fairytale feel!

Isn't that castle fun?! It's a Paper Layering die included with the kit so I started by die-cutting it with a 3.5" by 8" panel of Hero Hues Dove White Cardstock. Then I used Copic markers to add shading to the castle and surrounding mountains. Once I was done coloring I carefully masked off the castle with Post-it notes and added a blended sky. I used Fresh Peach, Pale Tomato, Ultra Pink, Passion Flower, and Cornflower inks and blending brushes to create my sky.

Next I decided to try something new and I stamped the sentiment, wizard, and dragon with Versafine ink and heat-embossed them with White Satin Pearl Embossing Powder. The combination created a pearlescent steely-gray outline that was EXACTLY what I was going for! I colored the wizard and dragon with Copic markers and then die-cut them with the coordinating die. I adhered them to my scene and added a tiny bit of Crystal Clear Lacquer to the dragon's flames to finish the card! And now I feel like dragging out my old Disney princess movies... ;)

Win a kit before you can buy it! Just leave a comment on this (and every) Countdown to Creativity post. We’ll randomly draw one lucky winner from all the comments left across all countdown posts. The winner will be announced first thing Monday morning, August 5th, before the kit launches at 10am Pacific. The more you comment, the more chances to win!

Good luck!
