Today we're happy to have a special guest on the blog – Essie! She is sharing some great cards using new digital products from our December release. Take it away, Essie!
Hello Crafty friends! Essie here with some celestial digital cardmaking – this was a perfect way for me to get ready for the arrival of my December My Monthly Hero card kit! (Please hurry, Mail Carrier!)
Today’s card is a large easel card that uses three of my favorite digi techniques. Here’s how I made it:
- I printed the light orange & pale blue version of the Celestial Digital Paper onto a piece of cardstock – that colorway gave me the palette for my coloring. I cut the digital paper to 4.5" x 6.5".
- Favorite Digi technique #1 (Alter the size): Using the happy sun in the Sun & Moon Printable, I increased the size to 135% which gave me a sun that’s about 4 inches across.
- Favorite Digi technique #2 (Color with your favorite medium): I printed the image on copier paper (yes, that’s right, plain old copier paper). This was because I forgot to load more cardstock into the printer tray, but I colored it anyway, using my Copic markers. To my surprise, the copier paper took my Copics beautifully – the blending was so seamless!
- I adhered the sun onto white cardstock and die cut the image using my Nesting Circle Infinity Dies. I die cut a slightly larger circle out of glitter paper and a slightly smaller circle out of foam. I sandwiched the foams between the image and the glitter paper, to create dimension.
- I made a 5" x 7" top folding card using a white base bottom panel (cut 5" x 7.5", score ½" from the top, crease the upper ½" and add strong tape or glue to that small flap. Secure a 5" x 7" glitter paper card front to the flap. Score the card front a little less than half-way from the bottom (I scored at about 3" from the bottom).
- I glued the sun “medallion” onto the celestial patterned paper and then adhered the patterned paper to the glitter paper making sure that the adhesive was applied (ONLY!) below that score line on the glitter paper card front.
- Favorite Digi technique #3 (Add foil): To foil a digital image, you need to use a laser jet printer and either a Minc machine or a laminator to apply heat that will allow the foil to stick to the laser jet ink (aka toner). (Note: this is different than the type of foil used with our Hot Foil Plates!) I printed the sentiment from the Sun and Moon Printable onto vellum and then put that sentiment through my hot foil (Minc) machine using toner reactive teal foil. I adhered the foiled sentiment to a scrap of celestial patterned paper, matted that on glitter paper. I glued two layers of plain cardstock under the glitter paper to make a “lip” that the easel can rest on and glued the sentiment stack on the card base, about 1.5" from the bottom of the card.
I also made a bonus card, using ink blending and foiled images and a sentiment from The Firmament Digital Kit.
- For the main panel I positioned and printed stars, the moon, and a sentiment from this kit onto cardstock. This sentiment is special for my son and me – this card will be for him.
- Then I ink blended Hero Arts Reactive Inks (blues and purples) over my 3.75" x 5" panel. I put the ink-blended panel and some silver toner reactive foil through my Minc.
- I mounted the panel on a piece of silver cardstock and the dark purple Celestial Digital Paper and popped all that onto a white A2 card base.
