CommUNITY: A Celebration of Diversity in Crafting

Hello everyone. It's Dana here with you. Today's card is for a new monthly feature here on the Hero Arts blog called CommUNITY: A Celebration of Diversity in Crafting. This feature is near and dear to my heart. Being inspired by so many amazing creators and artists makes me happy. Making sure everyone is included and feels represented in this crafting community is my purpose.

Seeing faces that don't represent you in spaces we all belong is NOT okay. Having your voice silenced to make others feel comfortable is NOT okay. We all matter. We all should be seen. We all must be heard.

Diversity is not something to be feared. It's a beautiful process to see people of different backgrounds and cultures sharing their stories. Some might not be pretty, however we learn and grow together. Representation is smiling when you see yourself on platforms that were once unreachable and shining through doors that were closed. Pulling each other through goals we only imagined. The world sees you as an incredible human and a talented artist. Grow through learning and love with all your heart. We can get there together.

CommUNITY is about embracing and honoring the creativity of individuals who are often underrepresented. By sharing art from a diverse group of creators, we hope to not only bring inspiration to this papercrafting community we all love so much, but also support and empower individuals to be their authentic selves as they create and share. Let's get into my card. I started out by stamping the focal image from the Hero Arts Unity Collection Power To The People stamp set in Intens-ified Black ink onto Dove White cardstock. Next it was time to add the background.

By stamping the same image again onto masking paper, I was able to cover up the image before I stamped the new Abstract Frames Bold Print over the entire image. Once I removed the mask, I stamped a sentiment from the Creative Quotes stamp set onto the sign. Using a black multi-liner pen, I extended the head on the image to make it complete.

Now it was time to color. Using a few Copic markers in a muted and earthy color palette, I colored the main image as well as the squares on the background.

Once all the coloring was complete, I trimmed down this panel to 3.75" x 5" so I could place it onto a piece of Adriatic cardstock. This panel was placed on a side folding 4.25" x 5.5" card base made from Dove White cardstock. To finish off the card, I added Crystal Clear Lacquer to a few squares for added interest.
