Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today, and I have some snowy inspiration for you using the darling Merry Snowmen stamps and dies! I love the vintage Christmas vibe they give. I sometimes struggle with scene-building; but I have found a great way to minimize the size of the "canvas" on which I'm working by using a die cut shape, like the Nesting Oval Infinity Dies dies that I've used today. I have created a little scene that reminds me of a snowglobe, so let's get started with all of the details!
I began by stamping the snowman and snow-child from Merry Snowmen on some Copic-friendly white cardstock using Contour Ink so that I could do some no-line Copic coloring. I used some very vibrant primary colors for the snowpeople's accessories, but kept things light and a tinted blue for the snow itself by using B63, BV20, B60, BV0000, and colorless blender to create the white snow for their bodies. The colorless blender marker is invaluable when creating snow and shadows for white objects, allowing the white of the cardstock to shine through, while the lavender/blue shadows give shape to the image. Once I had finished coloring all of the images, I used the coordinating Frame Cuts to cut each piece out.
Next, I wanted to create the background for my little scene. Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed by the space on a card front, I like to cut down the amount of space that I have to fill by using a shaped die cut, then use that as my ground for the die cuts. I die cut a fairly large white oval using the Nesting Oval Infinity Dies, then, using Blending Brushes, I blended Dusty Blue ink around the top 2/3 of the oval, adding a touch of Indigo ink around the very edge, creating an almost electric blue sky to mimic the electric blue scarf, hat, and mittens on my snowmen!
Once I had completed all of my die cutting, coloring, and ink blending, it was time to assemble my project. I adhered the blended oval background to the white card front using foam adhesive, then arranged my snowmen and trees, adhering them with another layer of foam adhesive, creating a double layer of foam adhesive and lots and lots of dimension! I added a sentiment strip (stamped using a greeting from the Christmas Holiday Stamp & Cut XL) across the bottom of my little scene, which gives it an even firmer ground. The final touch was to add some subtle sparkle using the Sparkle Clear Lacquer Pen, adding bits of "snow" to the trees, snowmen, and snowy, windy swirls in the sky behind the snowmen. Such an easy way to add a bit more texture and sparkle to your holiday cards!
