Keep it Simple Shark Card

I can't resist a stamp set with a great pun and the new Jawsome Sharks stamp set not only includes three punny sentiments and a birthday greeting, but also some of the cutest shark stamps around. These stamps are ideal for creating adorable, sea-themed cards this summer that I’m sure your friends and family will think are “jawsome”!

One of the easiest ways to make a quick, beautiful card is simply to create a colorful ink-blended background, layer it with a small collection of colored images, and then add a sentiment panel or strip. That’s it, easy peasy!

To make this simple shark card, I started by inking the lower portion of a panel of Dove White cardstock with the Sea Palette Reactive Cubes using a blending brush. The Sea Palette set of aqua and blue inks is invaluable for making sky and water backgrounds. Before inking the background, I masked the upper portion of the panel with a piece of masking paper that I cut with a wavy edge. After inking the panel, I splattered the background with water to create dramatic water spots. I secured the finished panel to a Paradise card base.

Next, I stamped five irresistible images from the Jawsome Sharks stamp set with Intens-ified Black Ink onto white cardstock. I colored each of the images with colored pencils but they could be inked or painted with many mediums. I used the coordinating dies to cut around each image and then secured each image to the card with either foam tape or Precision Glue, leaving an empty space in the center of the panel for a sentiment.

To finish the card, I stamped a sentiment from the Jawsome Sharks set with Embossing & Watermark Ink onto Bermuda cardstock and then heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder. I used a sentiment strip die from the Message Strips Stamp & Cut XL to easily trim around the sentiment. These versatile strip dies can be used with many sentiments from other stamp sets. For a final detail, I added a hint of shine with a trio of Blue Enamel Dots.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. If you have less time this summer at your craft table, I hope that you’re inspired to make a few quick cards using these three easy elements. The weekend is coming, I hope yours is wonderful and crafty!
