Temperatures are dropping, leaves are starting to turn, and a new collection of autumn themed stamps and dies is in the Hero Arts shop now. All of this has me eager to make some fall cards for my stash. Nothing says fall like pumpkins, so today I’m sharing a pair of cards that I made with the beautiful new Color Layering Pumpkin set. Not only does this set have stamps to create a lovely, realistic pumpkin but it also has five sentiments for creating thank you and Thanksgiving cards.
For a change, I decided to make a pair of simple pocket cards. Rather than the usual folded card, a pocket card is created by securing a front and a back panel together on three sides and then inserting a removable panel in the pocket. I started by trimming two pieces of Sand cardstock and two pieces of Mist cardstock. I trimmed the two front pieces to 4.25" by 4.75" and the two back pieces to 4.25" by 5". By creating a slightly shorter than normal card, the interior panel will extend above the pocket for easy removal.
Using Cup O’ Joe and Soft Pool inks, I stamped one front panel with the Buffalo Check Pattern Bold Prints stamp and the other with the Woodgrain Bold Prints stamp. I also used a Nesting Circle Infinity Die to cut a notch from the center of the top edge of each front panel. To secure the front and back panels together, I applied a narrow line of Precision Glue closely along the lower and side edges of the front panel and then positioned it onto the back panel, carefully aligning the three edges.
While the pocket was drying, I stamped a pair of Color Layering Pumpkins on Dove White cardstock using Tangerine, Moss and Cup O’ Joe inks. The brown ink creates striking, dark shadows on the pumpkin however there are many different color combinations that would be equally wonderful. I used the Color Layering Pumpkin Frame Cut to quickly cut around the images. Before securing the pumpkins to Papaya and Mist tags that I die cut with a Tag Infinity Die, I glued two additional pumpkin cardstock shapes behind each image for additional strength. I added a bow to each tag and then secured them to the cards with foam tape. I finished the front of each card with a few Green Enamel Dots and a sentiment that I heat embossed with Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink and White embossing powder onto Palm and Chestnut cardstock strips.
For the removable panels, I trimmed two pieces of white cardstock to 3.75" by 5.25". When inserted into the card, the upper edge of the panel will stick above the pocket. I used one of the new Autumn Leaves Fancy Dies to cut leaf stencils from masking paper. After positioning them on each panel, I used an ink blending brush to apply Tangerine and Moss inks over the stencils. Then, I stamped sentiments with brown ink over each leaf shape. There is still plenty of white space below each stenciled leaf, as well as the back side of the panel, to write a personal message and sign the card.
The Color Layering Pumpkin set is the perfect set for making all of your fall cards. The classic pumpkin image is ideal for autumn birthdays, Halloween and Thanksgiving cards. Wonderful pocket cards. Rcvd my Kit, add one & Sept Featured items. Rcvd the layering pumpkin stamp and die. Played with Pumpkin Patch Bold Print stamp and Sunflower. Today, will play with layering pumpkin stamp & die.
