Scene Building with Ice Fishing

Hello and welcome to the Hero Arts blog! Janette here with you today to share a few tips on scene building with the new October Add-on, Ice Fishing. Each month Hero Arts releases a new My Monthly Hero Kit. Often they sell out within just a few days of release. You can subscribe to make sure you always get one, but did you know that the Add-ons become a part of the Hero Arts regular line and will be replenished if stock runs out? It's true! The Add-ons carry the kit theme along as stand alone stamp and/or die sets, and play fabulously with the kit too.

Begin creating today's card by stamping images in Hero Arts Intense Black ink on your favorite Copic friendly cardstock. I've used 110# Neenah Solar White Classic Crest.

The bucket o' fish is a separate stamp within the set. In order to make it appear to be in front of the fisherman, stamp the bucket first on the white cardstock. When images overlap, always stamp the image you want to appear in front first. It may seem counterintuitive, but it works!

Stamp the bucket again on masking paper or even a full stick sticky note. Fussy cut, including inside the handle. Place mask over stamped bucket and then stamp the fisherman. Like magic you've given your images perspective!

Stamp all elements as desired. Next, lightly pencil in ice shelf and waves. Once satisfied, go over pencil with a Copic Multi-Liner or similar Copic friendly black pen. Remove any exposed pencil with eraser.

In hindsight, either myself or our fisher-dude are a little nuts! (I'm not admitting anything!) What would be the point of cutting a hole in the ice quite so close the edge? Don't overthink it!

Color in all images, sky and water with Copic or your favorite alcohol markers. Be sure to give your critters a shadow to ground them.

Drip Copic Colorless Blender throughout sky to give a Northern Lights effect. Be very careful around stamped images. The solution will cause colors to move and spread. I tilted my card panel away from areas I did not want the blender to go. It will look like a hot mess until it completely dries. Don't be alarmed. Repeat the step until you are pleased.

Finish card panel by white heat embossing snowflakes and popping up a black stamped sentiment with dimensional adhesive. Adhere colored panel to folded card base. Stamp interior sentiment as you desire.
