Hi everyone and welcome back! This is Mindy here today to share with you a fun emboss resist technique using the Gel Press. I've done a few videos myself using the gel press and this is a new technique that I recently learned from Jennifer McGuire that I thought would look amazing with the Fireworks Bold Prints background stamp.
If you are not familiar with the gel press, it's just a gelli plate that can be used with a variety of mediums. I like to use it with my dye inks to create blended backgrounds.

To begin, I heat embossed the Fireworks Bold Prints background on 6 pieces of Dove White cardstock cut to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2". For a bit of variety I heat embossed 3 in Gold and 3 in White Detail Embossing Powder , stamping with Embossing Ink and Unicorn Pigment Ink . I'm also going to have a few more sheets of Dove White cardstock cut to the same size off on the side to stamp off on.
To do the inking of the background, I'm going to use the Gel Press. I place it in my Misti Stamping Tool just like I would a background stamp and load one of my embossed panels in.
Next, I'm adding ink directly onto the Gel Plate and will blend the colors together with a rubber brayer. For this particular set of cards I used Dandelion , Soft Apricot and Crimson .
Once the ink is blended on the Gel Plate, I'm closing the door of the Misti to stamp the Gel Plate down onto the cardstock. It may not look great at first but we are going to layer the colors up.
Now since I have the image heat embossed on the cardstock, that embossing is going to resist the ink we stamped down which means there is an impression left on the Gel Plate.
Using a piece of Dove White cardstock cut to the same size, I load that into the Misti and stamp that excess off.
I will repeat these steps two more times, each time adding ink, blending it with the brayer and stamping down, just switching out my cardstock. You will essentially be creating two cards at once with two totally different looks.
I switched up colors to try and create a night time sky and used Grape Juice and Navy Ink.
After all of my stamping is done, I will wipe off the excess ink from the embossed panels to really make the fireworks pop from the background.
For this next set of cards I wanted to try an ombre look so I inked the gel plate using Cornflower , Pool and Navy Ink.
Not only did we just create a bunch of fabulous backgrounds but they can be used for so many occasions. I used the Thinking of You , Big Hugs and Hello There sets paired with the City HeroScape .
You could also make them birthday or graduation cards.

I loved this and your backgrounds were amazing. I bought a gel press and have yet to use it. Time to get it out. Thanks for showing your tips and techniques.
